Auburn vs Arkansas College Football Preview

College Football Week 1

The Arkansas Razorbacks travel to take on the 6th ranked Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This SEC matchup will be exciting if Arkansas can find a way to score against the Auburn defense. Auburn is coming off their disappointing loss in the National Championship game against Florida State last year. Auburn almost always has a tough schedule, and this opponent is no different. Auburn will be utilizing their rushing game as they did last season when they had the most potent rushing attack in the nation. Auburn will be fighting to prove that they deserve to get back to the national championship game, and will have to do so by getting into the four-team playoff that is new this year.

Keys for the Arkansas Razorbacks

  • Last year one of the only things that Arkansas did well in was their rushing attack. Sophomore Alex Collins had 190 carries for 1026 yards and four touchdowns. Junior running back Jonathan Williams had 150 carries for 900 yards and four touchdowns as well. If these backs can continue to split carries and be successful they might be able to get more then three wins this season.
  • The Arkansas defense didn’t have a very good season last year allowing more then 30 points a game. This number will obviously have to come down if the razorbacks stand any chance this season.

Keys for the Auburn Tigers

  • Although the Tigers lost their best back in Tre Mason, Nick Marshall was able to prove himself as a quality running back as well. Marshall has 1068 hards on 172 carries last year. His numbers will jump this season as Auburn still has a solid run block up front
  • The Auburn offensive line will have to be powerful and open up lanes for Nick Marshall. Auburn is a run first, pass later offense, that needs to bring in the linebackers to throw it over the middle.

-Injuries

  • Arkansas

o   RB Alex Collins

  • Auburn

o   DE Carl Lawson

Favorite/Odds: Auburn by 20 points

The Auburn Tigers are looking to get back on the road to the National Championship; first they have to go through Arkansas. This opening game at home will certainly give Auburn a great confidence boost for the rest of the season. Arkansas has struggled lately and they will need to be patient and not panic in this game so they aren’t struggling the rest of the season.
