Elon vs Duke College Football Preview

The Elon Phoenix travel to face The Duke Blue Devils at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Elon University Phoenix did not have such a successful run last year in the FCS, as they only managed a 2-10 record. Duke on the other hand, was able to come out and surprise the nation with its 10-3 regular season record. But the Blue Devils eventually lost their bowl game in a shootout against Texas A&M 52-48. Duke will want to prove to the nation that they are capable of producing similar results. Opponents like Elon won’t do anything to help Dukes strength of schedule, but it’s always best to get the season started off with a victory. Last year Duke started the season off with a win over North Carolina Central 45-0. Hopefully they will have a similar result in this opening game. Duke might not have quite the successful year as of late, but they will handle Elon just fine.

-Keys for the Elon Phoenix:

  • B.J. Bennett returns for the phoenix at the running back position, He led the team in carries last year with 123 and 464 yards. He will need to have a better season if the Phoenix want to win more then 2 games. Bennett will need some help from his offensive line if he hopes to gain any yards.
  • QB Mike Quin also returns for the Phoenix, with 17 touchdowns and 2618 yards passing. Quin will need to make smart decisions in order to limit the amount of turnovers he has this year.

Keys for the Duke Blue Devils

  • Duke had a fantastic season last year, but it also lost many of its best players during the summer.
  • Senior wide receiver Jamison Crowder will have to step up his leadership abilities. Last season Crowder led the team with 108 receptions and 8 touchdowns.

  • Duke

o   TE Braxton Deaver

–Favorites/Odds: Duke by 12 points

The Duke Blue Devils aren’t expecting to have the success that they enjoyed last season. This opening game against Elon should yield success for the Blue devils, but they will be hard pressed for the remainder of their season.
