Cal Poly vs New Mexico St. Preview

The FCS Cal Poly Mustangs take on the New Mexico State Aggies at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Cal Poly had a decent year going 6-6, but it was nothing to brag about. Cal Poly has a well balanced defense and offense to take on FCS opponents, but this FBS team will give them trouble.   New Mexico State certainly didn’t have a season to brag about either, going 2-10 only beating Abilene Christian and Idaho. New Mexico State had to face Texas in their last season opener, and this year they face a much easier opponent in Cal Poly.

Keys for the Cal Poly Mustangs:

  • Kristaan Ivory will be back in the backfield for the Mustangs this season. Last year he led the team in caries 172 and 1113 yards. Ivory is the main back when they don’t need to punch it short yardage. Cal poly will put a lot of confidence in Ivory if they are going to win any games.
  • Chris Brown is the other player that Cal Poly needs to utilize. This duel threat QB 836 yards passing and 11 touchdowns. And 751 yards and 8 touchdowns to add rushing. Brown and Ivory need to lead the mustang offense.

Keys for the New Mexico State Aggies:

  • The Aggies lost their starting QB last year so King Davis III will take over the duties. Davis will have to step up and remain calm under pressure if the Aggies want to win this home game.
  • The Aggies had one of the worst defenses in the nation last season. IF they expect to win any games in the Sun Belt they will have to bring in some defensive recruits capable of winning ball games.

–Favorite/Odds: New Mexico State by 12 points

–New Mexico State fans will be excited to get an early opponent such as Cal Poly. The aggies need to start their season off with a win, and there best chance will come against this FCS team.
