Eastern Illinois vs Minnesota Preview

Minnesota-vs-Eastern-Illinois-Football

The Eastern Illinois Panthers, an FCS school, have to travel to the land of 10,000 lakes looking for an upset. The panthers look to do what they did opening game last season when they beat their FBS opponents, the San Diego State Aztecs. 2014 looks to be another year that the panthers end with a winning record. Last season Minnesota used their aggressive running game to assert themselves on the football field. With close to 200 yards/game average rushing the Golden Gophers won half of their conference games on their way to an 8-5 record and a disappointing loss to the Orangemen of Syracuse in the Texas Bowl. Picked to finish dead last in the Big 10 prior to last season, this year the Golden Gophers surely have something to look forward to in the 2014 season.

Eastern Illinois @ Minnesota

–Keys for Eastern Illinois Panthers:

  • If the Panthers are to have any chance, their all-purpose yards leader from last season, Shepard Little, returns and will need to be in tip-top shape in order to come out of Minnesota with a victory.

Keys for Minnesota Golden Gophers:

  • Many NCAA coaches will withhold information on who their starters are going to be come game day, but head coach Jerry Kill hasn’t been shy, and named his starting QB Mitch Leidner weeks ago. If Leidner can successfully run his offense then Minnesota might shock the rest of the Big Ten conference yet again.
  • Head Coach Jerry Kill was forced to take a leave of absence at the end of last season because of medical reasons. Although interim defense coach Claeys stepped up in his absence, head coach Kill is essential if the Golden Gophers hope to become bowl eligible once again.

-NO KEY INJURIES TO DATE

Favorite/Odds:

  • Minnesota by 26.5 points.

The Golden Gophers face a tough Big Ten conference schedule and they will be out for blood against the Panthers. Eastern Illinois dominates its Ohio Valley conference in the FCS, but will they have enough to take down the Gophers? Only time will tell…
