Presbyterian vs Northern Illinois Preview

The Northern Illinois Huskies are looking to continue their run of successful seasons in the MAC conference. Last season Northern Illinois won their first 12 games before losing their last regular season game as well as their bowl game against Utah State. The loss of their quarterback as well as their main offensive threat, Jordan Lynch, will leave a hole in the Huskies offense that will need to be filled come game one. Last season Northern Illinois had one of the most potent rushing offenses in the nation, which averaged close to 300 yards/game, a most impressive statistic from a team that isn’t traditionally a powerhouse. The Presbyterian Blue hose, on the other hand, are looking to rebound from just a 3-win season. The Blue Hose face an uphill battle on both offense and defense.

Keys for Presbyterian Blue Hose:

  • The return of QB Heys McMath in the 2014 season could allow the 6”4’ Georgia native to make key plays that allow the Blue Hose to somehow get into bowl eligibility range.

Keys for Northern Illinois Huskies

  • The departure of Jordan Lynch has left the QB position wide open for the huskies; fortunately the return of the top two receivers, Da’ron Brown and Tommylee Lewis, means that these huskies will have some experience under their belt.
  • Departures in the secondary defense of the huskies allows for players like Safety Dechane Durante, who had 3 interceptions last season, to step up and secure their defense.

–INJURIES: Cameron Stingily (Rb), Doubtful for season opener

–Favorite/Odds: Northern Illinois by 34 points

–Northern Illinois was trying to play Cinderella last year and almost won their bowl game. But after losing their last two games of the season, The Huskies will be looking for blood against a less then impressive Presbyterian.
