Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs Louisiana Monroe Warhawks Preview

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are trying to rebound from another losing season, which saw their offense struggle most of the year. Wake Forest finished near the bottom of every offensive category with 196 yards passing per game and 94.1 rushing yards a game. New Head Coach Dave Clawson has a tough job to do in rebuilding this team considering the amount of offensive starters that they lost. Last season the WarHawks struggled in their opener, but that was against an Oklahoma team that eventually beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. This season Louisiana Monroe will like their odds to start their year off with a win.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Louisiana Monroe Warhawks

Keys for a Wake Forest victory:

  • The Demon Deacons have to replace their top quarterback, running back, and wide receiver. The underclassmen that fill these rolls will have to step up their game.
  • Defense wins championships, and while unlikely to be champions of anything, Wake Forest will need to rely on their defense to set them up with good field position.

Keys for Louisiana Monroe victory:

  • ULM also lost their starting QB last season and will now hand the reins over to either junior quarterback Brayle Brown or senior quarterback Pete Thomas.
  • Utilize the crowd in their favor in order to gain a mental edge over the Deacons.

NO Key Injuries to date

Favorite/odds: Wake Forest by 2.5 pts.

Both teams in this matchup have quite a bit to prove with a win. Wake Forest is looking to see if their new coach has done his job-recruiting players that will enable them to compete for an ACC title. ULM is trying to prove that they aren’t just a punching bag for big schools that they face early in their season.
