Jan Peter Schmittmann a former Executive Officer, his wife and daughter were located inside their home over the weekend. All three were dead and police said a family tragedy had taken place.

The three were found in Laren a town only 20 miles from Amsterdam, said Dutch police. A police spokesperson said that the dead were Schmittmann who was 57 and his two family members.

At approximately 10:30 am, police took a call from an acquaintance of the family who said there could be something wrong at the home of the family. The police said the two women who were found dead were 57 years of age and 22.

A local Dutch newspaper reported, without citing sources, that the deceased had been found by the second daughter of the Schmittmann’s, after she had arrived home.

The daughter had been scheduled to go on a trip with her parents to India. The daughter had lined up an internship, said the newspaper report.

Schmittmann originally joined ABN in 1983 and was named the lenders Dutch head in 2003. He resigned from the bank, which is based in Amsterdam in December of 2008, after the bank became nationalized earlier the same year.

A spokesperson from the bank said the bank was shocked by news of Schmittmann’s death.

Sadly due to recent trends is seems the assumption is it was a suicide until it can be proven otherwise. It is a sad comparison, but Schmittmann is not the first senior executive with ABN to be found dead.

Back in 2009, the former CFO’s body was found lifeless with shotgun wounds. He was found in England in the town of Surrey reported the BBC.

Schmittmann was the owner of 2phase2, which was apparently an asset management business and co-founded 5 Park Lane a private equity firm according to his profile on LinkedIn.
