The FCS South Dakota State Jackrabbits travel to take on the Missouri Tigers at Memorial Stadium. Missouri had to find some replacements for all the players that it lost to the NFL and graduation. South Dakota State did well in the FCS last year with a 9-5 record that includes their home opener against Butler 55-14. Last season Missouri was in the hunt for the National Championship right up to their 2nd loss to 3rd ranked Auburn on their last game of the regular season. Instead, the Tigers went on to defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the AT&T Cotton Bowl. South Dakota State will surely have its hands full with this game as the Tigers are nothing like any of the FCS opponents that the Jackrabbits has ever faced.

Keys for the South Dakota State jackrabbits:

  • South Dakota State will enter this game ranked 10th in the FCS division, which is a division below the FBS. Missouri will be the toughest opponent they face all year long. As long as South Dakota State plays their hardest and is able to compete, they should be able to hold their heads high looking towards their future games against FCS opponents.
  • Zach Zenner is a senior running back for the Jackrabbits that had a fantastic 2013 season. 2015 yards rushing with 25 total touchdowns. If Zenner can match those numbers there’s no reason the Jackrabbits can’t make it to the FCS playoffs again.

Keys for the Missouri Tigers:

  • The key for the Tigers will clearly be whether or not they can replace their starting QB, RB, and beset WR which they lost to the NFL. Last year the Tigers were so close to the national championship they could taste it. They lost to the 20th ranked Gamecocks by only three points in OT and to Auburn in their last game. The Tigers will need to learn from the mistakes they made in those close games.

NO KEY INJURIES TO DATE

Favorite/Odds: Missouri by 18 points

Missouri fans will want to see the recruits that head coach Gary Pinkel has brought in to his Tiger squad. While they enter the season ranked in the top 25, a loss or even just a struggle against an early opponent could see them dropped outside the top 25. South Dakota State will be trying to play the upset role against this young Missouri team.
