Nebraska vs Florida Atlantic Preview College Football Preview

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Florida

The Florida Atlantic Owls, of conference USA, head west to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers, of the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska has high hopes this season, and they come into their first game ranked 22nd in the AP poll. Florida Atlantic didn’t start their season off very well in 2013, lost a few close games midseason, and ended the year on a four game win streak. Florida Atlantic has many of its starters returning much like Nebraska does, making this game all the more interesting. Nebraska head Coach Bo Pellini will surely have his team prepared to face a tough non-conference opponent.

Keys for the Florida Atlantic Owls:

  • Junior quarterback Jaquez Johnson will be playing under center for the owls in 2013. The duel threat had 1866 yards passing and 12 touchdowns, as well as 767 yards rushing with 10 additional touchdowns. Johnson has proven that he knows how to score, and he will have to do so against Nebraska.

Keys for the Nebraska Cornhuskers:

  • Ameer Abdullah will be in the backfield for the Huskers again this year. The exciting explosive back had 281 carries and 1690 yards passing with 9 touchdowns. Abdullah got the bulk of the running plays with Imani Cross taking the short yardage scores. If Abdullah can have a similar year or better, the Cornhuskers will win most of their games.
  • Nebraska needs to limit their turnovers. Many of their losses were caused by too many turnovers at wrong times during the game.
  • Nebraska will have high hopes heading into this season after the defeated SEC Georgia in their bowl game.

-Favorite/Odds: Nebraska by 21 points

Both teams in this matchup need every win if they have any aspiration of getting a bowl game bid. Florida Atlantic just barely missed getting a bowl game, they will certainly be yearning to take that next step. Nebraska is a tough opponent anywhere, but even tougher at home. The Cornhuskers will be trying to impress voters so they can move up in the polls and maybe get a chance to make the championship playoffs.
