Nicholls State vs Air Force College Football Preview


The Nicholls State Colonels head to Colorado Springs to take on the Air Force Falcons. This will be the eighth straight year that the Falcons start their season off against an FCS opponent. The last time these two teams met, in 2009, the Flacons dominated from start to finish in impressive fashion 72-0. Air Force is 30-14 at home under their current head coach Troy Calhoun. The Colonels are located in Thibodaux, La. Nicholls State is a member of the Southland Conference, and NSU finished 4-8 overall last season and 1-6 in the Southland Conference. Air Force will be looking to do what they did last time they met this opponent, dominate them.

Keys for the Nichols State Colonels:

  • Nicholls State is led on offense by Tuskani Figaro, who recorded a 1,000-1,000 last season, He rushed 1,103 yards and seven touchdowns while hitting 83-of-157 passes for 1,135 yards and eight touchdowns. Figaro will be a hard one to bring down, the Falcons will have to find a way to get to him quickly.

Keys for the Air Force Falcons:

  • Air Force is 32-8 in season openers at home, the Falcons know that the Colonels will likely make it 33-8. Another stat that bodes well for Air Force is that Troy Calhoun is 7-0 with Air Force for their season openers.
  • QB Nate Romine took the majority of the snaps under the option offense of the Falcons. Romine had 5 passing touchdowns and 603 yards passing as well as 200 yards and 3 touchdowns rushing. Romine will have the experience to make better reads of his defenses with a year already under his belt.


Favorite/Odds: Air Force by 45 points

The Air Force Falcons are good at finding holes in their opponents defense, and exploiting those holes for big gains. If the Falcons can do what they did all last season there will not be anything that Nicholls state can do about it.
