North Dakota vs San Jose St. Preview

FCS North Dakota Fighting Sioux of the Big Sky conference will be trying to stop the pass heavy offense of the San Jose State Spartans. North Dakota managed to win their opener last season, but this San Jose State team knows how to pass and score pretty well. San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher still has to make a final decision on who his starting QB will be come week 1. But both of his options will surely be able to handle the offense effectively. As long as the Spartans come out firing they should be able to win their home opener.

–Keys for North Dakota:

  • North Dakota will have their hands full replacing many of their offensive starters from last season except for their leading receiver, Kenny Golladay. Golladay had 69 receptions for just under 900 yards.
  • North Dakota didn’t have a single running back with more then 100 carries on the season. If they somehow can find a way to rush the ball in order to better set up the passing game they might stand a chance.

–Keys for San Jose State Spartans:

  • Head Coach Ron Caragher still has to make the decision on who his starting QB will be, either Blake Jurich or Joe Gray. Each QB has had a successful preseason, and both seem quite capable of winning the spot over the other.
  • One spot that is certainly locked down for the Spartans would be the running back spot. Jarrod Lawson returns looking for a season of redemption. Although his final tally of 788 yards on 164 attempts isn’t terrible, it certainly leaves room for improvement.

–INJURIES: (ND) Troy Huff: Out

–Favorite/Odds: San Jose State by 22.5 points

–The Spartans will be out for blood against the Fighting Sioux with their aerial attack. San Jose State certainly won’t overlook North Dakota, as they do have a few players that can be explosive. However the faithful Fighting Sioux shouldn’t get their hopes up to high.
