Northern Iowa VS Iowa College Football Preview

The FCS Northern Iowa Panthers take on the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big-10. Iowa had somewhat of a disappointing season in 2013 even though they ended with an 8-5 record. Iowa lost in a nail biter in their 2013 opener against Northern Illinois. The Hawkeyes were able to rebound and win 4 consecutive after they lost their first. However, even after reaching the Outback bowl, they came up short against a talented LSU team. Northern Iowa Panthers head coach Mark Farley will be hoping to take down his Big-10 opponent. UNI finished the year in the Top 25 in FCS 10 of the last 13 seasons, and the Panthers have taken home a top-five ranking in six of the last 13 seasons. Iowa will have to be well prepared for this exciting FCS squad.  -Keys for Appalachian State Mountaineers:

      Keys for Northern Iowa Panthers:

      • Northern Iowa has 19 of its starting 22 players on offense and defense coming back for 2014.
      • QB Sawyer Kollmorgan returns this season in hopes of leading the Panthers back to the FCS championship.

-Keys for the Iowa Hawkeyes:

      • Jake Rudock returns under center for he Hawkeyes. Last year Rudock was able to spread out his passes among many different wide receivers.   Rudock had over 2,300 yards passing but only 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
      • Mark Weisman has had an excellent career with the cyclones. He returns his senior year to add to his 1790 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns.




–Favorite/Odds: Iowa by 8.5 points


–The Northern Iowa Panthers are another of the FCS schools that can give FBS opponents something to think about when they play. Iowa wants to get started off on the right foot this year, but Northern Iowa certainly isn’t going to give the game away.
