Ohio vs Kent State College Football Preview

Spencer Keith

The Ohio Bobcats travel to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes at Dix Stadium. Ohio had a shaky start and an equally shaky finish to 2013. Ohio lost their first game against a 9th ranked Louisville 49-7. Ohio and Kent State also faced off in November of last year, a game that Kent State dominated 44-13. That was Kent States 4th and final win and their last game of their season. Ohio will be looking to avenge their home loss and shut down the golden flashes. Ohio is trying to get back to a bowl game and beating a team that just beat you would be a big confidence boost for the bobcats.

Keys for the Ohio Bobcats:

  • Derris Vick will be the starter for the Bobcats come week one. Vick only attempted 45 passes all season in 2013, though he did throw a touchdown. Vick needs to settle in to the starting position and make smart decisions with head coach Frank Solich watching.
  • Ohio has a young running back core, and they will need to be developed. Hopefully they have recruited enough talent for the position.

Keys for the Kent State Golden Flashes:

  • Sophomore Colin Reardon will get his second year started at quarterback. Reardon had 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. If Colin can work on bringing down the interceptions by two or three he would be throwing two to three more touchdowns.
  • Trayion Durham will be in the backfield for his senior season already having 2712 yards and 24 touchdowns. Durham’s experience should make the younger players watch him more. If Durham sets a good example then Kent State will have a stronger team for the future. Hopefully Durham can avoid inuries.

-Injuries:

  • Kent State

o   Trayion Durham RB (Questionable)

–Favroite/Odds: Kent State by 3 points

This will be a close matchup on both sides of the ball. Hopefully injuries wont limit Kent State, who as of now is the favorite to win. Ohio has a strong team with some returning players, which makes them dangerous.
