Modric, who is now 28, has become one of the vital players at midfield for manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian manager values Modric’s calm play and ability to feed the attacking players with passes that are skillfully placed from his position at midfield.

Ancelotti also prizes Modric’s ability to fall back to the box and tackle on defense.

It looks as though this season Modric will play alongside newcomer Toni Kroos and veteran Xabi Alonso.

Modric was key in the club’s draw of 1-1 on Tuesday versus Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup first leg from the Bernabeu the home of Real.

Modric said when he arrived two seasons ago the club won the Super Cup and he said it would be a great thing if they could start another season winning yet another Cup.

Real will face Atletico in the second leg of the Cup on Friday at Calderon Stadium home of Atletico.

Modric and his teammates must score if they hope to win the Cup, as Atletico hold an edge having scored an away goal and could win on aggregate without needing to score on their home pitch.
