Samford vs TCU College Football Preview

The FCS Samford Bulldogs travel to take on the Texas Christian Horned Frogs. Samford won their season opener a year ago against Georgia State 31-21. Samford had a fairly impressive year and finished 8-5. Their head coach Pat Sullivan will not be in attendance at the gamed due to medical reasons. Hopefully this won’t affect the team. The Horned Frogs struggled last year, especially in the Big-12 conference. TCU had a couple of close losses but still went 4-8 and only 2-7 in conference play. Their only two wins in conference play came against Kansas and Iowa State, who each didn’t have a great year. The horned frogs need all of the non-conference wins that they can get, and this Samford team is in their sights.

Keys for the Samford Bulldogs:
 With head coach Pat Sullivan not making the trip the Bulldogs will need the rest of the coaching staff to step up and encourage their players.
 Samford returns eight starters on defense, and five starters on offense. These players know how to reach the FCS playoffs and will be instrumental to the younger players.
 The offensive line returns players Kyle Champion, C.H. Scruggs, Jordan Boatright and Gunnar Bromelow.

Keys for the TCU Horned Frogs:
 Trevone Boykin will get all the snaps this season with TCU. Boykin already has 3252 yards and 22 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. Boykin should see his numbers increase now that he will be the only starting QB.
 B.J. Catalon will be in the back field for the horned frogs as he wants to see more action in 2014. Last year Catalon had six touchdowns and 1151 yards rushing.

–Favorite/Odds: TCU by 24 points

The Horned Frogs will need this win more then Samford. The Samford Bulldogs had an excellent year in the FCS last year, but the last time they face an FBS opponent to start the season they lost badly. The Horned Frogs will be looking to capitalize on this early matchup
