The Savannah State Tigers visit the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Floyd Stadium. FCS Savannah State was crushed in their opener last season against Georgia State. Savannah State was only able to manage a single victory and finished last in the MEAC conference. Middle Tennessee won their season opener in 2013 against Western Carolina. The Blue Raiders had some quality wins, and ended their regular season on a five game winning streak. Unfortunately their winning streak didn’t continue in their bowl game, which they lost to Navy 24-6. Middle Tennessee needed this first game so they can get back to winning.

Keys for the Savannah State Tigers:

  • Leon Prunty will return at QB for the Tigers, he managed 11 touchdowns last season, has a year of experience with this Tigers offense. Prunty hopefully learned from their teams mistakes last season.
  • Marquis Smith returns for the tiger defense. Last year Smith had 13 tackles for loss, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Smith will need to help lead the defense in their tough games.

Keys for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders:

  • Jordan Parker returns for the blue raiders in the backfield. Parker had 146 carries and gained 745 yards with six touchdowns. Parker will have more running opportunities this year with a freshman QB.
  • The leading receiver from a year ago also returns. Marcus Henry will be trying to add to his 47 career receptions for 731 yards and 4 touchdowns.


–Favorite/Odds: Middle Tennessee by 19 points

This matchup will feature two obscure teams that will be fighting for pride. Savannah State is fighting to regain their pride after only winning one game in 2013. Middle Tennessee will be fighting to keep their pride that they had last year with a winning season. Middle Tennessee will have to battle to come out with a win which they desperately need.
