Southern vs Louisiana-Lafayette College Football Preview

The Southern University Jaguars face off against the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at Cajun Field. FCS Southern went 9-4 in the SWAC conference. They lost their season opener at Houston last year 62-14. They again face an FBS team in their first game, though Louisiana-Lafayette isn’t quite as good as Houston was. The Ragin’ Cajuns enjoyed a 8-4 regular season, when they received a bowl game bid. They beat Tulane in the New Orleans bowl in a good game 24-21. Louisiana-Lafayette wants to duplicate the success that they had last season and have a better 2014 season.

Keys for the Southern University Jaguars:
 The Jaguars need to try to continue the success that they enjoyed in the latter half of last season. Their last game they defeated Jackson State 34-27 in OT.
 Lenard Tillery will be in the backfield for the Jaguars this year. Tillery had a team leading 184 attempts for 784 yards and nine touchdowns
 The Jags will need plenty of luck on their side if they are going to win this game.

Keys for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajun’s:
 The Ragin’ Cajuns lost their first two and last two games, and won every game in between. Head coach Mark Hudspeth needs to make sure his team can start and finish their games better.
 Alonzo Harris accepts the running back position this year and he wants to add to his 947 yards and an impressive 14 touchdowns. Harris will have to be a team leader in 2014 if the Ragin’ Cajuns want to get back to a bowl game.

Favorite/Odds: Louisiana-Lafayette by 18 points.

Louisiana-Lafayette impressed many last year with their bowl game win. They will need to prove that they are capable of performing another such feat. Southern will have to dig themselves in and work on their defensive strategies about how to stop Louisiana-Lafayette.
