Stanford vs U.C. Davis College Football Preview

The UC Davis Aggies travel to Palo Alto to face the Stanford Cardinal at Stanford Stadium. U.C. Davis struggled in the FCS last year, and this trip to Palo Alto will really test their patience. Stanford had a very good team last year that won its opening game against San Jose State 34-13, on its way to an 11-2 regular season record. Pac-12 play took its toll on the Cardinal, as they lost to Utah and USC. Stanford was able to play in the Rose Bowl at the end of the season against Michigan State. Stanford was only able to put up 20 points against a tough Michigan State defense in their loss to the Spartans 24-20. Stanford will like this tune-up game to ensure that are ready to go in a tough Pac-12 conference.

Keys for the U.C. Davis Aggies:

  • Head coach Ron Gould will need to make sure that his team is mentally prepared to face such a tough opponent.
  • The Aggies will need to work on their defensive line and try and get to the Stanford QB.
  • Special teams will be a factor for Davis all year, they will need to win special teams battles in order to help their field position.

Keys for the Stanford Cardinal:

  • Senior quarterback Kevin Hogan had a good performance last year with 2630 yards and 20 touchdowns, with only 10 interceptions. Hogan was also 2nd on the team rushing the ball for 355 yards and two additional touchdowns.
  • The Cardinal will have to replace their best running back, but their offensive line remains strong and will open lanes for whoever is in the backfield.

  • Stanford:

o   WR Ty Montgomery

-Favorite/Odds: Stanford by 24 points

The Stanford Cardinal fans should be excited this season, but also weary of how tough the PAC-12 Conference has become. UC Davis will be a nice start to their season, but when they win they need to immediately move on to their next opponent.
