Texas A&M Football Preview

Texas-AM-v-South-Carolina

The Texas A&M Aggies look to start off their new season strongly in the post Johnny Manziel era against a well-balanced South Carolina Gamecocks. The Aggies lost their two best playmakers, Manziel and WR Mike Evans, and the Gamecocks lost their own star in JadeveonClowney to the NFL. This SEC matchup is a true meeting of powerhouses from last years SEC with A&M going 9-4 and South Carolina going 11-2 respectively.

Each team is ranked in the top 20 of the USA Today poll, and each team will be looking to start off their conference schedule with a win. Aggies coach Kevin Sumlinstill has to make an important choice before week 1, which quarterback will fill the shoes of the Heisman winner, Kyle Allen or Kenny Hill? A freshman and sophomore, respectively, these two young-guns will need to prove themselves in preseason in order to get the nod from Sumlin. Last years Gamecocks had a stout defense led by Clowney, this year however Spurrier, the ‘Head Ball Coach,” has some preseason offensive All-Americans at the offensive guard and running-back positions. The Gamecocks are a top ten team with their non-conference games spread around their schedule; their in-conference schedule is one of the toughest in the country.

Texas A&M @ South Carolina: Thursday, August 28th @6PM

–Keys for Texas A&M:

  • Coach Sumlin has to choose between his two young quarterbacks, whichever he chooses, Kyle Allen or Kenny Hill, has to step their game up and fill some pretty big shoes.
  • Defense: A&M was one of 2013’s worst defenses in the Nation, allowing more then 32 points/game, if Coach Sumlin can’t turn that around then the Aggies are in big trouble. While the defensive line has been strengthened with recruits like Julian Obioha and Alonzo Williams.

–Keys for South Carolina:

  • Although the Gamecocks lost arguably their best player in JadeveonClowney, Coach Spurrier’s defense is still quite strong. However their offense could use some improvements from players such as senior offensive guard A.J. Cann and junior running back Mike Davis, who were both named to preseason All-American teams. Both of these players look to improve on their 200 yards/game rushing offense, which included Manziel’s rushing.

–NO KEY INJURIES TO DATE

–Odds/Line: South Carolina by +14points

This SEC powerhouse matchup comes as one of the first games of the 2014 season. With each team losing a star player to the NFL, both teams will be looking to start off the season on the right foot. This game will be a good game to watch with plenty of points to be scored.
