Brigham Young University will be traveling to New England to take on the Connecticut Huskies. BYU stumbled out of the gate last season with a loss to Virginia on opening day. After their first loss they were able to upset a then ranked Texas team. The Cougars were able to win a string of 5 consecutive games mid season, which contributed greatly to their bowl bid, which they eventually lost to Washington. BYU ranked in the top ten in the nation in rushing last season; in part to their duel threat QB Taysom Hill. The Huskies will have to be well prepared and play above their talent level with which they played with last season.

–Keys for Connecticut Huskies:

  • Senior Wide Receiver Geremy Davis is one of the few players on the BYU squad that is capable of confusing defenses. Last season he had the most receptions on the Cougar squad with 71 receptions, but only three touchdowns.
  • The departure of their top tackler on defense from 2013 will leave an opening for defensive players like safety Obi Melifonwu to step up into a leadership role.

–Keys for BYU Cougars:

  • Junior QB Taysom Hill is back for the Cougars and will be looking to return to bowl contention. The duel threat Hill can spread the field with his arm as well as his legs. The 2013 season was a great one for Hill as he was the teams top passer as well as top rusher. Hill can add to his already impressive 3,300 passing yards and 23 touchdowns he has with BYU.

–NO KEY INJURIES TO DATE:

–Favorite/Odds: BYU by 16.5 points.

–BYU has high hopes heading into the 2014 season. BYU has a well-balanced attacking offense and their opponents for 2014 don’t pose too many problems. The Cougars will be clawing their way through their season so they can go bowling once again.
